Two Local Graduates Team Up with Donald Trump
Andrew Hewitt and Luc d’Abadie were two university students who, like so many others, assumed a university degree from a reputable school was the ticket to success. It was in their second year that they realized something was wrong. Instead of growing wealthy and successful they were growing frustrated. Their ‘high grades from a good school’ formula wasn’t working. They were heading blindly into the adult world with dissatisfaction and financial strife coming at them full tilt. Then something happened that would change their lives forever.
They read Rich Dad, Poor Dad® and found the insight they needed to create a strategy for success and wealth that actually worked! They became sponges for material on financial literacy and success; and over the next three years of university they read over 50 personal development books, attended over a dozen seminars and conferences, started a couple of businesses and purchased just shy of a million dollars in real estate. The knowledge they were acquiring was producing a return on investment FAR greater than what they were learning in the classroom.
In 2004, when Andrew graduated from the University of Lethbridge and Luc from the University of Waterloo, they landed a major publishing deal with Health Communications Inc., the publisher of Chicken Soup for the Soul, to share the success principles they had learned and applied in a simple, student-friendly and content-rich book targeted at high school and university students.
Upon graduating they turned down numerous job offers, knowing the employee direction wasn’t for them, to team up with Les Hewitt, author of the international bestselling series The Power of Focus. Not only did Andrew and Luc team up with the bestselling series, The Power of Focus, they also got Donald Trump to write the foreword for their book. Andrew and Luc recall, “We sat down and thought big. There's a popular quote that says shoot for the moon and even if you miss you'll land among the stars. That's what we did and we just happened to land on the moon.” They attest that the foreword from “The Donald” was achieved by doing three things: believing deep down that it would happen, visualizing it by putting Foreword by Donald Trump on mock book covers used as screen savers on their computers and strategically networking until they reached the 26th floor of Trump Tower to meet the man himself.
To their delight, the manuscript was given high praise by the Trump Organization. Upon meeting Mr. Trump at his office in New York City he told Andrew and Luc, “Your book is going to be a bestseller like all mine, right?” They plan to hit the bestseller lists in spring 2006 during the high school graduation season.
They have since updated their screensavers to a picture of them sitting beside Donald Trump on the Oprah show. “It doesn’t take any more effort to think big then it does to think small,” say 23-year-old Andrew and 24-year-old Luc from Calgary.
Andrew and Luc attribute much of their success to the financial education they learned through the Rich Dad books and Fast Track events such as the CASHFLOW game nights and the Business Super Conference. They even feature a story about Darren Weeks in the Financial Freedom chapter of their book. Check it out on page 229!
So what are these young twenty-something’s up to now? They have built an entire business around their book that includes speaking, summer workshops and two newly launched web sites – www.focusedstudent.com and www.passionpuzzle.com. They were also asked to become educators for Trump University - sharing their student success principles through online courses and CD albums alongside “The Donald”. Pretty cool!
