April's Success Story
My wife, Jennifer, and I first met Darren Weeks when he was in the process of leaving what seemed to be a good job selling condominiums for a reputable and progressive company doing business in both Canada and the US. His plan was to start a new business and market a game that we had never heard of – something called the CASHFLOW Game. Although I had been immediately drawn to Darren, seeing him as a very intelligent and personable individual, I had trouble understanding his decision. To me, a career civil servant, it appeared as though he could have a bright and secure future ahead of him if he stayed with the company. Little did I know what Darren had discovered or the influence that he would come to have on my entire family.
Although he had invited us to his initial Fast Track to Cash Flow events, it was a year or more before we finally took him up on the offer. Between having two active teenagers, our own jobs and dabbling in real estate, it was pretty easy to find excuses to turn down Darren's invitations to something that sounded a bit far out.
Finally, the day arrived for us to attend one of Darren's all day events, and our lives and those of some of the people around us began to change forever. We learned about Robert Kiyosaki, his series of Rich Dad Poor Dad books, the Cash Flow Quadrant and the Rat Race – in which we had become firmly entrenched and from which Darren had escaped.
Since that initial meeting with Darren, six or seven years ago, Jennifer and I have made incredible strides toward getting control of our lives, especially from a financial perspective. Our children, now young adults, have also attended a number of Darren's events. They have both become astute investors, are in the process of developing their own businesses and have resolved to NEVER hold a JOB – or Just Over Broke, as Darren would say.
Today our family owns five single family homes in Edmonton, AB and Barrie, ON; twelve townhouses in Redwater, AB where multi-billion dollar oil sands-related upgrades will soon be built; and, we have a one-third interest in Properties of Distinction Corp., a real estate investment company that we established eighteen months ago. The company has already acquired eight apartment buildings, mostly using the bank's and OPM – Other People's Money. Our goal is to own 250 rental suites by 2009, with a projected annual cash flow of $300,000. As of April 2006, we are 28 percent of the way into our timeframe and 29 percent of the way toward achieving our goal!
Our daughter wrote her last exam yesterday at York University, located north of Toronto, where she has been studying psychology for the last four years. In addition to her studies, she has also developed a very successful business as a choreographer and figure skating coach. And just this morning, she phoned to say that she and her husband, also a focused young entrepreneur, had stayed in bed awhile and relaxed by playing the electronic version of the CASHFLOW Game! Next month, they're registered to attend Darren's Fast Track to Cash Flow event in Toronto where Robert Kiyosaki himself will be the featured speaker (okay, I admit to being jealous and wish that I was attending).
In closing, I have to say that the future looks very bright for our family thanks to the lessons we've all learned from Robert and Darren and the tremendous encouragement and support we've received from Darren, Vera and the rest of the team at Fast Track to Cash Flow. Thanks so much to each and every one of you for helping us see the light and gain a new outlook on all that life has to offer, if we just stay open to the possibilities!
