A Best Friend Could be Your Best Business Partner...
Olga and Julia have been friends for a while, but hadn’t considered going into business together – but that all changed at a 2004 Fast Track to Cash Flow seminar.
Both women are entrepreneurial, enthusiastic and full of ideas, yet they weren’t sure which direction to take. One thing they did know was that they had to take action for their ideas to work. Darren Weeks, Blair Singer and the seminar were a great inspiration. The people Julia and Olga met and the success stories they heard spurned them to take action … and the rest is history!
In July 2004, Bartence Ventures Ltd. was born and the first venture, called Healthy Snack Vendors (HSV), was launched in September 2004. HSV offers healthy alternatives to traditional vending machine products. Julia and Olga saw a demand for this service and took action! HSV offers only low fat, low sugar or low carb snacks; and although this business is relatively new, demand is growing. They may even open this venture to other entrepreneurs as early as fall 2005.
Investment real estate was their next venture and after a long search for the right property in the right location, their first duplex was purchased on April 1, 2005. A second duplex is closing on July 4, 2005 and both properties are fully rented and bringing in positive cash flow.
This success story continues to evolve with Julia and Olga's next venture, YouGo! Bistro Inc., that opened its doors on June 1, 2005. YouGo! is a healthy snack bar located in the Canadian Health & Squash Club in Kanata, Ontario. Smoothies, daily squeezed juices and low fat/low carb/low sugar snacks and meals are on the menu at YouGo!, with Julia and Olga running the bistro to refine the systems. "Yes, it’s a lot of work," say Julia and Olga, "but it is well worth it... AND it’s ours!"
About Julia & Olga:
Julia, a former model, has both business administration and law degrees, and what a force when beauty and brains converge. Quickly becoming disillusioned by her private law practice, Julia turned her attention to other ventures, such as a successful day care business. Julia’s forte was researching, developing and implementing policies, procedures and processes and it took about three government agency contracts to realize that when she does her job well, the systems stand on their own and she’s out of a job.
It was around this time that Julia and Olga became friends and only a few short years later they were talking about going into business together. Julia's background was perfect for any business. "Her creativity is amazing! And she's fantastic with all the administrative aspects – Thank God!" says Olga. "That's not my forte. I'm much better at sales, which is why we work fantastic together."
Olga came to Canada from Russia 10 years ago. With a passion for the service industry, exceptional standards of customer service and a management background, Olga was ready to show the Canadian service industry what she had to offer. Seeing that the Canadian service industry differed substantially from Russia's, she moved on to the business administration program at Algonquin College, majoring in marketing. This truly was a turning point that saw Olga jump into independent contractor jobs in sales, and eventually join Holiday Inn Select in Kanata, before even completing the program. The first year with the hotel, Olga was immersed in corporate sales. "That was the life." says Olga, "I knew that I made the right decision by choosing marketing. I had found myself." Downsizing at the hotel took Olga in a different direction and as of January 3, 2005 she resigned from her full time JOB. "Things happen for a reason," says Julia, "and the skills Olga refined while at the hotel are very helpful with the YouGo! venture.”

What will be next for these two incredible entrepreneurs? "This is just a start for us." says Olga and Julia, "There are so many ideas and opportunities. All we need is some spare time!"

I thought Akash was insane for making me get up at 6:30 on a Saturday morning (I live quite a distance out of Vancouver) and spend my whole day there.
